TOBA TEK SINGH: A man and his daughter were murdered in Chak 275-RB, Kalan, in the Dijkot police area along the Dijkot-Gojra Road in Faisalabad on Monday.

Reports said that Ghulam Abbas, 50, and his daughter Rukhsana Bibi, 20, were at home when two brothers, Muhammad Amin and Muhammad Ramzan, opened indiscriminate fire on them, resulting in their deaths.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a heated argument between Abbas and suspect Muhammad Amin a day earlier at a barber shop inthe village.

Police have arrested Ramzan and are conducting raids to arrest Amin.

ACE: The Faisalabad AntiCorruption Establishment (ACE) team arrested former municipal finance officer of Faisalabad Municipal Corporation Mujeebur Rehman Shami in a corruption case involving Rs1.6 billion.

Also, former registration branch staffers Ghulam Yasin, Amer Zia and Hafiz Imran were arrested for allegedly misappropriating registration fees from 2018 to 2023.

The case was registered on Aug 12 on a complaint filed by government contractor Asad Babar.UAF: Progressive farmers are achieving nearly double the average per-acre productivity, highlighting the need for agricultural experts to disseminate the latest technologies to the wider farming community.

This effort would ensure food security and make agriculture a more profitable profession, stated University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan.

He was addressing officers from the Punjab Agriculture Department during the inaugural session of a four-week workshop titled `Finance, Administration Management and E-Governance`.

The workshop, by UAF`sProfessional Training and Skill Development Center (PTSDC), is the 24th such training session mandatory for the officers` promotion. Around 65 officers are participating in the programme.

Dr Khan said that the agricultural sector faces significant challenges, including low productivity, water scarcity, and climate change. He noted that progressive farmers are harvesting more than 65 maunds of wheat per acre and urged the dissemination of modern agricultural practices to benefit the broader farming community.

Dr Waqas Wakeel, PTSDC director, said that the centre is enhancing participants` skillsthrough 250 short courses focused on agriculture, livestock, and rural development.

So far, the center has trained 11,000 people.

Dr Muhammad Iqbal Khan Niazi, director of agriculture extension, encouraged participants to fully engage in learning new techniques and experiences during the workshop.

RAPE CASE: The Garh police in Samundri arrested a 15-year-old boy on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting an eight-year-old child.

According to police, the suspect lured the boy to a sugarcane field in the locality and forcibly raped him. The survivor was taken to THQ Hospital for a medical examination.
