SWABI: All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) on Monday gave another call for protest in Islamabad on Feb 10 to push for acceptance of their `genuine` demands.
Speaking at a meeting held here on Monday, the alliance`s Swabi chapter office-bearers said public sector employees from across the country would join the protest against `unjust` pension cuts.
On the occasion, AGEGA district president Fida Mohammad said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had already cut 35 per cent pension and planned another 40 per cent cut.
`What will be left for the employees after 75pc reduction in pension?` He demanded the reversal of the pension cut decision.
Also, members of the Senior Staff Association, who are also part of AGEGA, demanded that the government sit across the table with the protesting employees and resolve their issues through peaceful means.
They said that while members of the Senate and National Assembly had hefty increases in their salary, perks and privileges, the public sector workers were deprived of the genuine pension rights under the pretext of International Monetary Fund conditions.
`The lawmakers and leaders of political parties are responsible for pushing the country into economic turmoil and now passing the entire burden of financial constraints onto the public sector employees,` said a senior English teacher on condition of anonymity.
