SBCA chief stresses need for building eco-friendly structures

KARACHI: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) on Thursday announced that it was going to implement `Sindh Green Buildings` initiative with the financial support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and a human development organization, the GIZ Pakistan.
While presiding over a meeting, the newly appointed SBCA director general, Muhammad Ishaq Khuhro, said that in light of environmental changes, it was imperative to adopt modern construction techniques that focus on energy conservation and eco-friendly features to develop sustainable buildings.The meeting was attended by SBCA officials and a delegation from the GIZ Pakistan.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the Sindh Green Buildings initiative where Mr Khuhro highlighted that this was a comprehensive project which would be implemented with financial support from the BMZ and the GIZ Pakistan.
`The National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority will serve as the primary executive agency, while BERC will act as the technical partner for the initiative,` a statement issued after the meeting quoted the SBCA DG as saying. -Staff Reporter
