Army, TMA join hands to ensure cleanliness in Dir

TIMERGARA: A cleanliness campaign was started in parts of Lower Dir district on Thursday under the supervision of Pakistan Army.

Personnel of the army, officials of tehsil municipal committees (TMAs), Dir Levis,police and traders are taking part in the drive. Awareness walks were also held in Timergara, Talash, Chakdara and Khall to educate people on the importance of cleanliness.

The TMAs sweepers along with local volunteers cleaned the drains, footpaths and streets. Commandant Dir Scouts Col Nasar Umar Hayat supervised the campaign in Timergara and Lt Col Mohammad Nawaz in Chakdara.

Talking to local journalists, TMO Iqbal Hassan, Lt Col Nawaz, DSP Sadiq Akbar and traders leader Akbar Khan said that the campaign would continue till complete cleaning of the bazaars, streets and footpaths. They said that the army would keep check on cleanliness in parts of the district.

`In the first phase, markets and roadside drains will be cleaned, and later the campaign will be extended to villages, schools and hospitals in Timergara, Chakdara,Talash,KhallandBalambat,` Col Nawaz said.

He said that the objective of the drive was to raise awareness among people of preventive measures against infectious diseases like dengue, diarrhoea, dysentery and malaria.

He said that the goal of clean roads and streets could be achieved with public support. He asked traders and officials of TMAs to ensure cleanliness to prevent spread of diseases.

MAN KILLED: A young man who had returned from Saudi Arabia two days ago was allegedly killed by his brother at Shaheedabad, Chakdara, on Thursday, police said. Wife of the victim, Ali Rahman, reported to Chakdara police that her husband was shot dead by his brother Ghaniullah over a monetary dispute. The police registered a case and have started investigation.

Meanwhile a girl student Anood, 5, died when she was hit by a speedy car at Chakdara.

In another incident, one Sanaullah was seriously in-jured at Kitiari area when a man stabbed him.

Residents said that the attacker wanted to stop Sanaullah from playing `Rubab`. He was taken to a local hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.

PRIZE DISTRIBUTION: University of Malakand registrar Sher Bahadar Khan has urged parents and teachers to focus on character building of the children.

Speaking at a prize distri-bution ceremony as chief guest at the University Public School, Chakdara, on Thursday, he said that education was the only means to achieving development and prosperity.

He distributed certificates and trophies among the position-holder students.

Controller of examinations, University of Malakand, Mohammad Shahid, parents and notables of the area were also present on the occasion.
