KASUR: An undertrial man facing murder and robbery charges was killed during an encounter with police on Monday near Jamsheir village Chak 24 in the jurisdiction of Pattoki Saddar police.

According to police, they were taking Younas to Pattoki courts in a van when five gunmen opened fire at them. The attacl(ers wanted to get Younus freed from police custody.

Gunfire erupted. When guns fell silent after a brief encounter, police found Younas injured. He was taken to Pattoki Tehsil Headquarters Hospital but he died on his way to the hospital.

Police claimed Younas was wanted in over 20 cases of murder, dacoity and robbery with Kasur policeandalsohadescaped from the judicial lock-up with his accomplice, Abu Bakar, on March 22.

Later, Shah Muhammad, father of Abu Bakar, died of a cardiac arrest when police arrested him inSarai Mughal.

The sudden death sparked a protest by villagers against police. They threw traffic out of gear for about five hours. District Police Officer Ali Nasir Rizvi suspended from service an inspector and two sub-inspectors after the incident.

Police said they had arrested Younas again within days. Police had taken him to the village to retrieve an official gun.

While coming back, he was killed by his own accomplices. Police registered a murder case against the accomplices.

ARRESTED: The AntiCorruption Establishment (ACE) arrested on Monday former project manager of the Kasur Tanneries Waste Management Authority Shabi Khan for corruption charges.

According to the ACE, on the complaint of then district coordination officer Javed Bukhari, they held n inquiry in November 2015 against Mr Khan who remained the project manager from 2008 to 2015.
