Teenager shot dead by robbers in New Karachi

KARACHI: A teenager was shot dead by suspected robbers on resistance in the New Karachi Industrial Area, police said on Wednesday.

New Karachi DSP Irshad AliBhutto said two gunmen on a motorbike stormed into a nimko shop near Sindhi Hotel. They snatched Rs4,000 from the shopkeeper. As they were leaving, 19-year-old Af tab Ramzan got hold of one of the suspects from behind.

His accomplice opened fire on him and fled. He sustained a critical bullet wound in the abdomen and died.

The victim was a close relative of the shop owner, Mohammed Sohail, on whose complaint the police registered a case against unknown suspects under sections302, 392, 397 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The victim originally hailed from Vehari in Punjab.

Robbery in North Nazimabad A couple and their toddler son were shot at and wounded by suspected robbers inside their home in North Nazimabad early on Wednesday morning, police said.

They added that two or three suspects entered a bungalow in Block D by breaking open its kitchen grill apparently with theintention to commit a robbery.

The house owner, Naveed Anwar, 50, wolce up, took out a pistol from under his pillow and opened fire on the suspects. The gunmen resorted to indiscriminate firing, resulting in bullet injuries to the couple and their child. As the suspects were fleeing, neighbours chased them but the criminals resorted to aerial firingto deterthe pursuers.

Area SHO Mohammed Shoaib said the suspects did not take away anything from the house.

Naveed sustained a bulletwound in the abdomen and his condition was stated to be critical.

His wife, Kiran, 40, received a bullet wound on an arm. Their son, Umar, 3, received four bullet wounds. As the bullets just grazed his body, he was out of danger, said the officer.

He said that injured Naveed is a property dealer. The police were also investigating any other aspect apart from a possible robbery attempt.

The SHO said Naveed had been operated upon at a hospital, but he was unable to give a statement.
