President directs CDA to allot residential quarter to female staff

By Our Staff Reporter 2023-03-28
ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed displeasure over a discriminatory and misogynistic act by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as they did not allot a residential quarter to a female employee on the plea that quarters could only be allotted to adult-male-working dhobis (washermen) as per past practice.

He said the CDA had discriminated against the female employee, and ignored Wafagi Mohtasib`s orders that directed the authority to allot the quarter to the female employee.

The president said the most unfortunate part of the CDA`s defence was that allotment could only be made to a male employee but not a female employee for the same services.`This is highly discriminatory, CDA is directed to improve its rules that are ensuring such misogynist practices and send the report to Wafagi Mohtasib of the same in 60 days,` he said.

He said that it was against the spirit of the founders of Pakistan, against the fair practices of Islam, and against the Constitution.

He further directed CDA to comply with Wafagi Mohtasib`s orders and redress the grievance of the complainant and, if so required, approvalof the comp e t e n t authority/ f o r u m should be s o u g h t w i t h o u t further loss of time.
