If CCI takes a decision against Sindh, it will not be accepted: SUP chief

LARKANA: Syed Zain Shah, president of Sindh United Party and convener of Save Indus River Movement, has said that the Council of Common Interests (CCI) was dominated by people who were propelled to power through Form-47. `If it decides against Sindhis, its decision would be rejected outright, he warned.
He said that canals were being constructed in contravention of 1991`s water accord.
Even when entire Sindh had stood up against the canals the federal government was reluctant to shelve the projects, he said.
He was speaking at a large public meeting under the aegis of the movement and the Sindh Abadgar Ittehad in Qambar town late on Saturday night.
Shah had earlier led a procession from Larkana bypass which arrived in Qambar townafter making brief stopovers en route.
PTI`s Haleem Adil Sheikh, who brought a large caravan from Karachi and joined therally, said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari were pretending to stand by Sindhi people but PPP hadbetrayed Sindh by refusing to support PTPs resolution against the canals in the Senate.
He praised lawyers for their perseverance in observing sit-in at Babarloi and announced participating in it. `Whoever stands for Sindh`s cause is a true son of the soil,` he said.
Dr Safdar Abbasi, general secretary of Grand Democratic Alliance; Kashif Saeed Shaikh, emir of Jamaat-i-Islami Sindh; Masroor Jatoi, Jeay Sindh Mahaz-Riaz chief Riaz Chandio; Haleem Adil Shaikh, president of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Sindh; Mohsin Qazi, president of Sindh Abdgar Ittehad; former GDA MPA Moazzim Abbasi and others also addressed the gathering.
In Thatta, Awami Tehreek`s local chapter announced plans to expand protest against the canals and corporate farming in Sindh.
AT district president Razzak Chandio and other leaders said in their address that PPP had givenaway millions of acres of land in Sindh to the establishment for the sake of political power.
They warned of environmental disaster that could follow the construction of the canals.
`If the canals are constructed, Sindh will become barren.
In Jhuddo, Mirpurkhas district, AT activists took out a rally and demanded cancellation of all anti-Sindh projects including canals and corporate farming.
In Hyderabad, speakers at a conference organised by Awami Workers Party at local press club, said that Sindh had been victimised since the inception of this country. The federation had been converted into `centralisation due to wrong policies of rulers, hence CCI`s decision against Sindh would not be accepted, they said.
They said the CCI was not mandated to decide water issues and a conspiracy was a foot to usurp mineral resources, water and land.
