ANP-PTI alliance clinches most slots in high court bar polls

PESHAWAR: Senior lawyer Aminur Rehman Yousafzai was elected president of Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) as alliance of lawyer wings of Awami National Party and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf defeated its rival multi-party panel by winning key posts sans that of general secretary.
According to results released late Saturday night by the presiding officerfor the polls, Mr Yousafzai, hailing from Malgaray Wakeelan of ANP, receive d 1,456 votes against 1,258 votes of his rival candidate Mohammad Yasir Khattak of multi-party alliance.
Arshad Ali Nowsherwi of Insaf Lawyers Forum was elected vice president of the bar association by securing 1,572 votes against 1,052 votes of his rival Mukhtar Ahmad Maneri.
Ashfaq Ahmad Daudzai, belonging to Muslim League Lawyers Forum, was candidate of multi-party alliance and was elected general secretary. He secured 1,363 votes against 987 votes of his rival Alam Khan Adenzai, who is also the outgoing general secretary.
Another candidate Syed Pervaiz received 324 votes.
Asadzeb Khan was elected joint secretary by getting 1,505 votes against1,088 votes of Mohammad Asim Khan.
Similarly, Subhanullah, Asad Khan Shahzad Yousafzai and Malik Mohammad Nauman of the two-party alliance were elected secretary finance, secretary library and press secretary, respectively, by receiving 1,499, 1,492 and 1,282 votes.
Moreover, for the two posts of executive member from Peshawar, Malik Behzad Khalil received 599 votes whereas Adnan Amber and Mohammad Ishaq Khan received 275 votes each.
Mohammad Bilal Hassan, Shabir Ahmad, Syed Majid Bukhari and Irshad Khan were elected executive members from Khyber, Nowshera, Kohat and Swabi, respectively.
Fawad Jan, Mohammad Saeed, Shaheen Mohammad, Sarfaraz Khan, Amir Abbas Turi and Noor KarimOrakzai had already been elected unopposed as executive members from Charsadda, Mardan, Hangu, Mohmand, Kurram and Orakzai respectively.
Polling stations for the polls were set up in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Chota Lahor, Kohat and Takht Bhai.
It is pertinent to mention that early this month the candidates of ANP-PTI alliance had outclassed rival multiparty panel in the annual elections of Peshawar Bar Association and had clinched all the posts.
In those polls, Qaiser Zaman of the two-party alliance was elected president whereas Saifullah Khalil and Zahidullah Zahid were elected vice president and general secretary, respectively.
