SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A jirga of Darey Mehsud tribes on Sunday demanded the payment of the promised compensation for homes destroyed during the Operation Rah-i-Nijat in Upper South Waziristan district.
A large number of tribal elders and notables from Alizai, Balolzai and Shamankhel clans participated in the jirga held at the political compound.
The participants discussed the performance of the committee established to conduct survey and complete the process of compensation claims. The elders expressed dissatisfaction with the slow process and urged the need for payment of swift compensation to the affected families.
They said that bureaucratic and administrative hurdles were impeding the process, urging the administration to remove the hurdies and provide compensation to the affected families forthwith.
It was unanimously agreed that a unified and coordinated strategy would be adopted to intensify engagement with the government functionaries to expedite the resolution of the issue.
The jirga announced convening of a second meeting of the jirga on May 1 at the political compound in Tank to push for early payment of the compensation.
The elders reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for the rights of the affected families.
