LAHORE: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), a top body representing lawyers, gave on Wednesday a 30-day deadline to Punjab government for trial and conviction of police officers involved in the killing of two lawyers in Daska.

The lawyers would widen the scope of their protest if the provincial government failed to meet the deadline, PBC`s vice chairman Azam Nazir Tarar announced at a protest camp set up at the GPO chowk.

He said the protests would be peaceful and no violent incident would take place.

He said the lawyers would mount demonstrations onMonday every week across the country till conviction of the suspects.

Lawyers set up another protest camp at the PMG chowk near Aiwan-i-Adl where tyres were burnt. Earlier, the lawyers appeared before courts wearing black armbands. Black flags were hoisted outside bar rooms and of fices in the city.

Members of the Lahore Bar Association took out a procession from the PMG chowk to GPO chowk and joined the protest camp set up there.

Holding black flags, the lawyers chanted slogans against the government and police. They termed Daska incident a test case for the government and said the blood of their colleagues would never go in vain.
