WEST Pakistan had a population of 40m in 1947, with Karachi alone having approximately 500,000. Now Pakistan and Karachi have respectively a population of 200m and 20m.
To cope with the problem of this ballooning population, more administrative units and devolution of power are needed. If we look at Turkey, Afghanistan and India, all of them have been creating more provinces when needed. So why can`t we, especially when ground realities in the shape of a rising population, pressures on necessities, an acute law and order situation and the deterioration of infrastructure have made life a nightmare.
Look at Karachi chaos on roads, poor infrastructure and insanitation.
Pakistan is nobody`s private or family property. It urgently needs smaller administrative units, local bodies, devolution of power and regular elections.
