Ghous`s poll plea rejected

HYDERABAD: Election Tribunal Presiding Officer Mohammad Ashfaq Baloch on Wednesday rejected the election petition of Syed Ghous Ali Shah on the ground that he failed to prove his claims, according to his counsel, Aslam Bhutta.

Ghous Ali Shah had contested election on PS-29 against Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the Sindh chief minister, and on NA-215 in Khairpur. His election petition on NA-215 was allowed by the tribunal. Then his petition of PS-29 was transferred to the Hyderabad election tribunal headed by Mohammad Ashraf Baloch from the Karachi tribunal by Election Commission of Pakistan.

Ghous Ali Shah had challenged the transfer before the ECP which rejected his plea and then he filed a petition against the ECP`s order before the Sindh High Court which restrained the Hyderabad tribunal from announcing its order on the election petition of Ghous Ali Shah. Mr Bhutta said that after a short adjournment, the SHC dismissed his petition on May 18, observing that since there was one election tribunal in Sindh, it could not be transferred to any other tribunal.
