T HIS refers to the front page news item `Be ready for action at short notice, Indian air force of ficers told` (May 22). It was a message by the Indian air chief along with his picture.

One of the world`s most distinguished editor of Washington Post stated many years ago that newspapers should strive to print news that have a high degree of relevance, interest and value to its readers.

Going by the above, I failed to find the relevance and purpose of this news item about a statement by the Indian air chief.

If a similar message was issued by Pakistan Air Force chief, would it be printed on the front page by Times of India? Captain (r) M. A. Jan (PN) Karachi
