PIA

2017-05-28
THIS refers to the editorial `PIA`s search for hope` (May 21) expressing deep concern over PIA`s deepening crisis. You have mentioned different measures taken by successive governments selling PIA`s properties in New York and Paris, entering into a code sharing agreement with Turkish Airlines, transforming it into a corporation and facilitating its division into a domestic part and an international part, perhaps to make it financially feasible.

It is quite frustrating that all these suggestions led to only cosmetic changes.

The real cause of its bankruptcy could notbe apprehended by the decision makers or they never wanted to take such measures for fear of exposing the `party (in this case, both parties).

Your editorial has suggested that `the airline must pass out of government hands if it is to survive`. One can assure you that this will never be done because, then, where will all the political appointees go? Besides, all the joyrides will end.

Also, the charm of awarding of contracts will be no more.
