Lawyers continue protest against colleague`s conviction

FAISALABAD: The members of the Faisalabad district bar and all the tehsils observed a full-day strike on the third consecutive day on Monday against conviction of a lawyer who had injured a civil judge by hitting him with a wooden chair during proceedings of a case.

The bar members said they would not accept the decision of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) as the legal requirements had been ignored while deciding the case. They said Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code had been made a part of the case wrongly.

Besides, they added that Imran Manj, the convicted lawyer, had not been given the opportunity to defend his case during interrogation and the police had submitted the challan without providing him opportunity to change the investigation.

Manj was given 18 years imprisonment by ATC judge Muhammad Khalil Naz on May 23 on charges of hurting a civil judge, Khalid Mehmood, during proceedings in Jaranwala courts on April 24.

The pohce had registered a case against the suspect under section 7-ATA, and 186, 189, 228, 324, 353 and 427 of the PPC on the complaint of Muhammad Nawaz, the reader of the injured judge.

The bar association of fice-bearers had called a press conference at the press club on Monday. However, it was postponed and they said the Lahore High Court had summoned a meeting in which the lawyers from across the country would participate.

ARREST ED: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday claimed to have arrested 11 proclaimed offends, including seven human traf fickers.

The FIA officials said a campaign was launched for the arrest of the proclaimed offenders and different raiding teams, comprising inspectors Tariq Mehmood, Kashif Mehmood, sub-inspectors Muhammad Muzamil, Abid Hussain,Taimoor Haider and ASI Amanat Ali were formed.

These teams conducted raids at different places during the last two days and succeeded to arrest 11 accused, including seven proclaimed of fenders.

The arrested persons included Syed Muzafar Ali, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Rizwan, Maqbool Hussain, Muhammad Siddique, Ghulam Raza, Shah Muhammed, Usman, Muhammad Nawaz, Shad Mehmood and Tayyab Aziz.
