BAHAWALNAGAR: A bride was shot dead allegedly by her brothers for honour while the bridegroom suffered critical bullet injuries in Chishtian here on Sunday evening.

According to Kalsoom Bibi of Chak 111 Murad, her son Hakim Ali contracted court marriage with Saba of the same area a few days ago. Soon after the marriage, the couple was forced to leave the area and they started living in Waris Colony (Chishtian) in a rented house when they started receiving threats from Saba`s f amily.

She said on the day of the incident, Saba`s brothers Sohail and Sohaib along with five gunmen barged into the house, held the couple hostage at gunpoint, tortured and abused them and later opened fire. As a result, Saba died on the spot while Hakim suffered critical bullet injuries and was referred to Bahawal Victoria Hospital from Chishtian THQ Hospital because of his critical condition.Chishtian A-Division police said a case had been registered against seven people, including two nominated ones, and the raids were being conducted to nab the suspects.

MURDER:An elderly gypsy woman was murdered allegedly for refusing the marriage proposal for her granddaughter at Chak 169 Murad here on Monday.

According to the first information report registered with Dahranwala police station, Kalu Bibi was cutting fodder in the fields at Chak 169 Murad when Aslam and Tariq of Chak 58 Fateh attacked her and slaughtered her with a sickle. The duo managed their escape while leaving the victim critically injured, who later succumbed to her injuries at the spot, it added.

The FIR said Aslam wanted to marry the granddaughter of Kalu; however, she was continuously refusing his marriage proposal, which enraged the suspect and he killed the woman along with his accomplice.

Police said no arrest had been made so f ar.
