LAHORE: Another suspected robber was allegedly killed during an encounter with a Crime Control Department (CCD) team in Shahdara area late on Thursday.

The police claimed the suspect, Yasir Hussain alias Shahansha, was involved in 98 cases of heinous crimes, including robberies, murders, attempted murders, extortion, etc, and was a symbol of terror in Lahore.

A police official says Yasir was running a notorious criminal gang and would also use his women accomplices to dodge the police while traveling before and after committing the crime.

He said a CCD team headed by Inspector Islam Gujjar set up a picket on a road on a tip-off about the presence of hardened criminal Yasir Shah in the Shahdara area.

He said that as the police signaled three suspects to stop at the picket for identification, they suddenly opened fire on them.

The police returned fire, ensuing a shootout, he said. As the guns from the suspects’ side went silent, the police found one of them lying critically injured, the police official said. His accomplices managed to escape.

The injured suspect was being rushed to the hospital when he succumbed to his wounds.

During the inquiry, the dead suspect was identified as Yasir Hussain. The body was shifted to the city morgue for autopsy after lodging a case.

CCD teams have been dispatched to trace and arrest the fleeing suspects, the police official said. — Staff Reporter
