WASHINGTON: The US State Department has said that it would not like to talk about a protest the MQM held outside the White House last week, although it does highlight human rights violations across the globe.

`Not speaking about the protest, of which, frankly, I wasn`t tracking,` said Elizabeth Trudeau, director of the State Department`s Press Office, when asked at a briefing to comment on the MQM`s protest.

She, however, explained that human and minority rights were among the issues that the United States continues to `work hard` on, `not only in Pakistan` but in its engagements both bilaterally with countries as well as in annual reports.

Ms Trudeau pointed out that the department`s annual human rights report detailed and expressed concern over rights violations and the department worked with other governments to `support the rights of marginalised, disadvantaged minority groups around the world`.

She also said that the international community could learn from each other on how to protect human rights.

At the protest, MQM chief Altaf Hussain announced that he would visit the United States in October to highlight the alleged human rights violations against political workers in Pakistan.
