KMC okays Rs1.4bn flyover on Azeempura Road

KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has finalised the construction of a new flyover on Azeempura Road aimed at easing trafhe congestion and enhancing urban infrastructure, a statement said on Sunday.
The project will provide a direct, signal-free connection between Shahrah-i-Bhutto and Sharae Faisal two of the city`s busiest arteries offering a smoother and faster route, especially towards Jinnah International Airport, the statement added.`The flyover will span approximately 500 metres in length, designed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and improved accessibility for thousands of daily commuters,` it stated.
The decision, it said, was taken at a meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab held to finalise the PC-1 of the project.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, Chief EngineerZulfiqar Abro, Financial Adviser Gulzar Ali and other senior officials.
`With the recent approvalof a block allocation worth Rs1.4 billion for the project, this flyover is poised to become a vital alternative route for Karachiites, especially in light of the ongoing developments along Shahrah-i-Bhutto. The project not only aims to reduce travel time but also supports the city`s broader vision of building sustainable and resilient urban infrastructure,` the statement quoted the mayor as saying.Following formal approval from the Planning and Development Board, the statement said that work on the flyover will begin immediately, with a completion timeline of one year.
Mr Wahab emphasised that this initiative reflects the city`s commitment to smart traffic planning and modern urban mobility, ensuring long-term relief for commuters and improved connectivity across districts.
