KASUR: Three-day celebrations of the 258th Urs of sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah will be held from Aug 28 to 30.

The district administration through a handout announced Saturday a public holiday in the district.

On Thursday, district administration officials with parliamentarians administered ghusal (or bath) to the shrine and laid a chaddar there.

Police said fool proof security had been arranged for the Urs.

A religious affairs committee has announced a variety of activities on the Urs.

On Friday, celebrations will begin with the recitationof the Holy Quran followed by laying of a chaddar and Naat and poetry recitals.

The second-day programmes include Quran Khawani, Darood-o-Salam, a speech contest among students and Mahafil-i-Sama where gawals Nazir Ijaz, Sheir Ali and Mehar Allwill participate.

The 25th Bulleh Shah Conference will hold a seminar where Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani is likely to be chief guest. Other guests include Mushtaq Sufi, Anjum Shakeel Gilani, Perveen Malik, Sughra Sadaf, Akram Sheikh andwill participate.

In the Mushaira, prominent local poet Tajam Kaleem will preside over the sitting where poets Rai Muhammad Khan Nasir, Fida Bukhari, Ghulam Hussain Nadeem, Raza Hussain and Naveed Yaad will read out their poetry.

The celebrations would be concluded on Sunday. An exhibition of the relics of the saint is the hallmarl( of the three day celebrations.

Langar stalls have been installed at the shrine as devotees have started arriving in Kasur.

Kasur police has claimed fool proof security to meet any untoward situation.

Police officials, Rescue 1122 and health personnel would perform duty in three shifts.
