Awareness drive on importance of vote planned

TAXILA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will launch a campaign to educate the citizens about the importance of vote in the Attock district next month.

Talking to newsmen, District Election Officer Abdul Rashid said the `Importance of vote and its registration` drive would be launched at the union council level during which seminars would be organised to highlight the importance of vote, its registration and transfer.

He said the media should also play its role in educating the citizens on the importance of vote. When a maximum number of people exercise their right to vote, better leadership would be elected which would certainly bring a positive change in society, he added.

The of ficial said under the annual review programme, voter lists would be updated for which the ECP staff would carry out door-to-door visits. During the last one year, more than 40,000 voters were registered, he said.

About the constituencies and numbers of voters in the district, the official said there were three National Assembly constituencies NA-57 with 395,000 registered voters; NA-58 and NA-59 350,000 voters. The district has five provincial assembly seats PP-15 with 221,000 voters, PP-16 with 214,000 voters, PP-17 with 24,5000 voters, PP-18 with 247,000 voters and PP-19 with 216,000 voters. Correspondent
