LAHORE: A man was arrested for allegedly torturing his minor housemaid in Ichhra on Sunday.
Police said 10-year-old Sadia of Faisalabad was employed at the house of Ahsan Butt, an architect, for over a year at a salary of Rs4,000.
A scared Sadia was seen walking outside a departmental store when locals inquired who she was and why she was there. She told them she had been working as a maid in a house where her employer and his wife beat her with a belt on charges of thef t.
The locals alerted police who reached the spot and shifted the girl to hospital where the medico-legal report revealed she had received seven injuries. Ichhra police registered a case against the suspects and started investigation.
Station House Officer Bilal Hanif claimed they had arrested Butt andef forts were being made to arrest his wife.
Last month, a teenage boy had died in Akbari Gate locality after the daughter of MPA Shah Jahan tortured him with a rod.
PROTEST: The family of a man killed two years ago protested outside Jati Umrah on Sunday for not arresting his killers.
Muhammad Arif, a father of five, was shot dead and his nephew injured when their alleged rivals opened hre on them in Raiwind two years ago. Raiwind police had registered a murder case against six suspects and started investigation.
The family and relatives of Arif alleged that the investigators were favouring the killers who had been granted bailby court because police investigators declared them innocent. The prime suspect Nabeel was hurling threats of dire consequences at the witnesses.
Arif`s wife threatenedthat if no action was taken, she and her hve children would set themselves ablaze here. She also alleged that Raiwind Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdul Wahab Khan was pressurising them to reconcile with the killers.
ASP Khan denied the allegations and said Crime Record Office Senior Superintendent of Police Imran Yaqoob was investigating the case.
Mr Yaqoob told Dawn that on the request of the family they had changed the investigation for the third time. All the suspects were investigated and only Nabeel was declared proclaimed offender. `We are taking steps to arrest the proclaimed offender,` he added.
