CUI withdraws transfer of acting registrar

2024-08-28
ISLAMABAD: The Comsats University Islamabad (CUI) has withdrawn a notification transferring its acting registrar while the much-delayed appointment of the rector is still awaited.

A few days ago, the acting rector had transferred acting Registrar Dr Sajjad A. Madni and made him the incharge of the office of Research Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) in place of Dr Shamsul Qamar.

However, on Monday, the university withdrew both the notifications. Now the acting registrar has been given his role back.

An official of the university said Dr Qamar was abroad that`s why the university administration had to withdraw the notification as a subcommittee of the university`s senate was soon going to hold a meeting which could not be held without the registrar, he said.

Comsats is without a regular rector and registrar while several other important offices are also without regular heads.

The university` senate on August 15 had approved three names to fill the post of the rector after about one year. The three were: Dr Shahid Khattak (Professor of Comsats Abbottabad campus), Dr Shahid Munir (chairperson Higher Education Department Punjab) and Dr Asghar Zaidi (former VC Government College University Lahore).

But the president of Pakistan, who is chancellor of the university, is yet to pick a name to complete the process of appointment.

Faculty members of the university demanded the government complete the process of the appointment of the rector to end the uncertain situation in the university. The post of the rector of Comsats has been lying vacant since July last year when Dr Mohammad T. Afzal resigned.

The then president Dr Arif Alvi handed the lookafter charge to senior dean Prof Dr Sajid Qamar until the appointment of a regular rector.-Staff Reporter
