Suspected gangster shot dead

KARACHI: A suspected gangster was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Gulistan-i-Jauhar in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
According to police, their patrolling party asked motorcyclists to stop near Gul Chowk in Block-6 but they resorted to firing in an attempt to escape.
The police retaliated and during the exchange of fire, one suspect was killed while his accomplice managed to escape.
The dead was identified as Abdul Aziz, alias Kabootari.
The police claimed that the deceased was linked with Lyari gangsters and was wanted in several cases of murder, attempted murder and encounters with the police.
‘LJ militant’ held
The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on Wednesday claimed to have apprehended a suspected militant in Surjani Town.
The paramilitary force carried out a raid in Surjani and arrested Mohammed Ilyas Khan.
“The held suspect was linked with the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi,” said the spokesperson. He was wanted in targeted killings, extortion and other crimes, added the official. Separately, the Rangers also detained a suspect, Ismail in Sohrab Goth who was allegedly involved in selling drugs in the locality.
Both the suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action.
