QUETTA: The law-enforcement agencies on Wednesday foiled an attempt to carry out a car-bomb attack in the city and seized an explosives-laden car from a parking lot near a police station in the Eastern Bypass area.
According to police, law-enforcement agencies had received information about the presence of a suspected car in the parking lot close to a police station in the Eastern Bypass area. Members of law-enforcement immediately acted on the information and seized the explosives-laden car.
Officials of the bomb disposal squad called by police informed them after checking the car that huge explosives were planted in the car.
`Over 35 kilograms of high explosives were placed in the car for carrying out car suicide bombing in the provincial capital,` a senior police official said, adding that after defusing the explosives, the car was seized.
Meanwhile, police also recovered arms and ammunition from a car which was found parked in the parking plaza in Circular Road area. `AK-47 rifles and hundreds of rounds were recovered from the car,` police said, adding that four suspects had been taken into custody for interrogation.
