PTI MPs `meddling` in university affairs

TIMERGARA, Oct 27: The local lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) have been pressurising the administration of University of Malakand to appoint their blue-eyed boy as registrar of the institute, according to sources.
They said that the post of registrar in University of Malakand had been lying vacant since transfer of its former registrar to Swat University.
`A local MNA is now forcing the vice-chancellor to appoint his favourite person as registrar of the university,` sources told Dawn on the condition of anonymity. They feared that the registrar would be appointed without following proper procedure.
Sources said that efficient, honest and qualified candidates were available in the administrative staff of university for the post.
`The vice-chancellor has the mandate to hand over the charge of the office to deputy registrar for the time being, they said.
The educationists and academicians in Malakand division demanded of the authorities to appoint registrar of the university on merit.
They also urged PTI central leadership to stop its lawmakers and workers from interfering in educational institutions, especially colleges and universities, to materialise manifesto of the party.
ARRESTS: Police claimed here on Sunday to have arrested 30 persons including six proclaimed offenders and recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession during the last few days.
Timergara SHO Fazl Mabood Khan told journalists that six Kalashnikovs, four rifles, five guns, eight pistols and 7,520 cartridges and 8430 grams of hashish were recovered from different accused during a crackdown.
The arms and ammunition were displayed to the media on Sunday.
The SHO said that cases were registered against the accused. He claimed street crimes and vehicle snatching incidents had decreased in the area.
Meanwhile, teachers of the state-run schools working in grade 15 on Sunday demanded of the government to end the existing promotion policy in education department and promote all grade 15 teachers to grade 16.
The demand was made in a meeting of All Teachers Association held in Timergara and was attended by teachers of different cadres from different areas of Lower Dir.
The representatives of teachers including Gul Zaman, Hazrat Rashid, Mohammad Riaz, Amin Faheem, Haseebullah and Malik Rahman addressed the meeting and rejected the present promotion policy.
They demanded of the government to devise a uniform promotion policy for all cadres. They threatened to hold a protest demonstration outside the provincial assembly if their demand was not met.
