Excise told not to recover tax from sports club

By Our Staff Reporter 2014-10-28
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday restrained the excise wing of the city district government from recovering property tax levied on Model Town Sports Club.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan passed the order on a petition filed by Sports Club President Rao Akbar.

The petitioner through his counsel argued that the district government sent a notice to the club requiring to pay Rs950,000 as property tax.

He said the club was not supposed to pay property or any other tax as it was the responsibility of the Model Town Society. The club paid its rent only, he added.

The counsel asked the court to set aside the property tax notice issued by the government for being illegal.

The judge restrained the government from taking any coercive measure against the club administration for recovery of the impugned tax and directed it to submit a reply.

The judge will resume hearing on Jan 10, 2015.
