LAHORE: The district consumer court on Monday issued notice to an online shopping website management in Rs500,000 damages suit in which it had been accused of not delivering shirts of the promised quality.
Petitioner Shafgat Ali of the Walton Road submitted in his plea that he had purchased two T-shirts from an online shopping website. He said he had purchased the shirts for Rs1,370 on understanding that the website owner and manger would be responsible if the quality of the shirts would be low, adding that he had received the shirts through a courier and paid the amount to it. The shirts were not found up to the standard as claimed by the website.
When contacted, the website administration said it would charge 40pc extra of total amount in case of the cancela-tion of the purchase, he said.
The petitioner asked the court to order the website administration to replace the shirts free of cost and pay damages for the mental agony he suffered due to its negligence.
The presiding officer, Khwaja Hassan Wall, issued notice to the website manger with direction to submit reply on Oct 31.
In another case, the court sought personal appearance of a mobile phone shop owner to defend Rs400,000 damages suit allegedly for damaging screen of a consumer`s mobile phone.
Kamran Iqbal of Nishtar Colony stated that he had given his mobile phone to shop owner, Ijaz Shah, for repairing. He said the shop mechanic damaged his mobile phone rather than fixing the problem. He said the shop owner refused to take responsibility for the damage caused to the device or to compensate the loss and pay damages.
