Seven ANF officials booked for `torture`

RAWALPINDI: Seven officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) were bool(ed by the police on the charge of detaining and torturing a suspected drugtrafñcker andhisfriend.
The Airport police registered the case against the ANF officials on the direction issued from the court of a special judge on Monday.
Jibran Masih, a resident of Gunjmandi, in his complaint alleged that he along with his friend Om Parkash was standing at the old GTS bus stand in Saddar on August 21 when two persons identified as Sufi Sarfaraz and Ibadat picked and took them away.
He alleged that later they were handed over to Inspector Munir Abid, Zameer Abid, Taugir, Amir Nawaz, Matiullah and an unidentified official of the ANF.
He alleged that they were subjected to physical torture by the ANF officials. The complainant said besides other torture his body parts were pulled with pliers which caused severe injuries to him.
On the allegations of the complainant, the court ordered his medical examination which led to the registration of the case against the ANF officials, the police said.
Sub-inspector Nasir Mumtaz, the investigating officer, told Dawn that he had not yet started the probe into the case.
`I shall proceed according to the legal procedure and then investigate the accused nominated in the FIR,` he added.
When a spokesman for the ANF was contacted, he said Jibran and Om Parkash had been arrested in connection with the seizure of three kilogrammes of charas on August 21.
He said the accused were sent to jail after a brief investigation and later Om Parkash was released on bail. However, Jibran is still in the jail. The spokesman also confirmed that the accused had lodged a complaint against the ANF staff.
