KARAK: The social and political figures here have expressed resentment over the felling of precious trees in the Sheenghar hills by timber mafia and demanded action against the wood smugglers.
The demand was made by the office-bearers of the Chountra Welfare Organisation while talking to media persons here on Tuesday.
They said that the timber mafia shipped precious wood to the local markets and other districts of the province.
The elders complained that the trees had very pleasant affect on the local environment, but their ruthless cutting had caused a decline in the rainfall.
They said that the Sheenghar hills were the common properties of many sub-tribes of the Khattak tribe, but the timber mafia had deprived them of the precious natural source.
