Three die as India intensifies shelling

SIALKOT/NAROWAL/MUZAFFARABAD: Three people were on Thursday killed and more than 27 residents of villages along the Line of Control and the Working Boundary injured in what officials described as the heaviest firing and shelling by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the last four days.
A senior official told Dawn that the BSF had stepped up shelling in Tatta Pani, Jandrot and Nakyal sectors along the LoC in the afternoon. Ahmed Din was at his home in Barmoch village in the Tatta Pani sector when a shell landed in his house and exploded, killing him on the spot. A woman and two children were injured in shelling in Tarkundi and Dabsi villages in Nakyal sector.
Intermittent exchange of fire went on for at least 11 hours in the Shakargarh, Bajwat, Chaprar, Harpal, Sucheetgarh, Charwah, Jandrot and Nakiyal sectors.
Two women died and at least 24 residents of villages along the Working Boundary were injured.
Mortar shells exploded inside homes in Sangaran, Sukho Chak, Karol, Chak Bheka, Behal Dogar and Bada Bhai Masroor villages in the Shakargarh sector killingNaseem Bibi, a resident of Karol village, and Zaiba Bibi, 32, of Abiyal Dogar village.
At least 24 people were also badly wounded.
