Govt urged not to use force against PTI workers

By Habib Khan Ghori 2016-10-28
KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira advised the PML-N government to hold negotiations and desist from use of force to solve political issues otherwise the situation would go out of control for which the government would be solely responsible.

Demanding to stop the use of `Gullu Butts` to create fear among people and release all arrested PTI workers, he said all those named in the Panama Leaks be made accountable immediately by getting the PPP`s Panama Papers Inquiry Bill passed from the Parliament.

Mr Kaira, who was addressing a press conference at PPP media cellin Clifton on Thursday, along with Sindh Chapter PPP President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Senator Saeed Ghani and others, said that by stopping people from staging peaceful protests the government has itself created a grave situation, way before November 2 which is the date PTI has threatened to lockdown Islamabad.

He said that PPP want supremacy of democracy in the country.

When the PPP held talks with the government for the continuation of democratic order, they were taunted and accused by Imran Khan. He said the PPP believes that peaceful protest was the right of all political parties but did not agree with the policy of PTI to lockdown the capital. He advised the PTI to adopt another way of peaceful protest and also advisedthe government to hold talks to find solution to their political issues.

Holding the government responsible for the political confusion in the country, he called the Panama leaks a big scandal of corruption, and that PPP wants all those whose names were mentioned in the leaks be held accountable. However, he said the government had started pursuing a policy of crackdown against PTI which is undemocratic.

Recalling that the PTI had organised a peaceful youth convention in Islamabad but by arresting its workers, the political situation had deteriorated. `If there will be threat to the democratic system in the country, PPP would protect it with the support of people.

He said that the political situa-tion in the country could only improve if the government accepted four demands made by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

Nisar Ahmad Khuhro also advised the PML-N government not to lose patience and stop the use of force to avoid derailment of its government. Senator Saeed Ghani said that PPP would not join any sit-in as it believes the solution of all political issues is through tall(s and the Parliament.

Earlier Mr Khuhro, addressing a gathering in Malir, welcomed 19 independent councilors and 13 chairmen of the union councils of District Malir who joined PPP. He said that PPP is open to all as it is a party for the masses. He reiterated the efforts that would be made to get the people of Karachi rid from the influence of supporters of dic-tators.

The minister said that Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has reactivated the party from the grassroots by reorganising the PPP. As a result, in the general elections of 2018, he said, PPP would sweep the polls.

Mr Khuhro, without naming the MQM, spoke about the political party which used to talk of dividing Sindh but today itself is in the process of disintegration and people were withdrawing from it.

He said that the government has worked out a strategy to carry out development in all rural and urban areas in the province on equal footings contrary to the devolution plan of Gen Musharraf who has patronised the areas of his choice for carrying out development work and hasignored the ruralareas of Sindh.
