Rawalpindi`s woes

RAWALPINDI, once a quiet town, has turned into an unruly city because of its increasing population and the rapidly deteriorating civic amenities. To make matters worse, many citizens act without consideration for others like littering and wasting precious resources like water.

The large increase in Pindi`s population is having an adverse ef fect on the environment as most of its trees and greenery have been cut to make way for new housing and roads.

Theincreaseinvehiculartrafhcis adding to pollution and enhances the number of road accidents.

This increase has led to a higher demand for water, food and basic amenities causing deforestation, soil degradation, pollution and loss of bio diversity. The civic authorities need to increase the number of water filtration plants. The loadshedding of electricity and gas is a routine matter, with gas shortage getting more severe during winter.
