Fata merger

2017-10-28
T HIS refers to the article `Robbing Fata (Oct 18) by Ghazan Jamal where he hashighlighted the consequences of merging Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and mainstreaming the region.

The state and its media should not jeopardise the future of the biggest victims of militancy and state prejudice since 1947 by just revoking the black law and merging them into another province.

Being a resident of the area, I can confidently say that more than 75pc of the Fata population is unaware that someone is else is going to decide their future.

Later, through a referendum they should be given an opportunity to decide their future.

This is how things can work. Otherwise, any decision without consensus and the will of Fata people will have long-term and adverseconsequences.
