Three Lesco men injured in face-off with villagers

KA SUR: Three of ficials of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) suffered injuries in an alleged attack by the residents of village Nizampura on Friday. After the incident, Lesco cut off power supply to the village, triggering a protest on the Depalpur Road.
The villagers, including women, made Lesco team hostage and manhandled them when they caught a house using illegal connection. When the Lesco team, led by Rashid Awan, sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Bahadarpura Sub-Division, conducted the raid, the villagers including, Rafiq and Barkat, stopped them from disconnecting the illegal connection and threatened them with dire consequences.
This led to an exchange of harsh words and a scuffle. The villagers, including women, attacked the officials with clubs andbricks. They manhandled the officials and broke mobile phones of SDO Awan and another official, Imran, when they tried to film the incident.
The Lesco officials, identified as Muhammad Imran, Hashim and Azeem, suffered injuries.
All the injured were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
The villagers held some Lesco officials, including the SDO, hostage and police had to be called.
Saddar police, on application of SDO Awan, registered a case against 10 identified and 20 unidentified villagers. However, no arrest was made.
After the incident, the Lesco of ficials cut of f electricity supply to the village. The move triggered a protest by the villagers who blocked the Depalpur Road.
They burnt tyres on the road and threw traf fic out of gear while chanting slogans against Lesco. The protest was still going on when this report was filed.
The villagers also submitted an application with the Saddar police against the Lesco of ficials for trespassing on their properties and manhandling them.
