Toxic food tragedy toll 10

MUZAFFARGARH: Two more members of the Lashariwala family died on Friday in the Nishtar Hospital rising the toll to 10.

Earlier, eight people of the family had died on Thursday whereas seven more people have been under treatment for consuming toxic food on Oct 24 in their home at Lashariwala, Alipur tehsil, 130km from here.

District Health Officer Dr Iqbal Makwal said the postmortem had been completed and samples sent to the Lahore for forensic work.

Seventeen members of Akram Lashari family fell unconscious after taking meal. They werefirst shifted to the local basic health unit from where they were shifted the Rajanpur District Headquarters Hospital to be referred to the Nishtar Hospital and Dera Ghazi Khan Teaching Hospital.

Despite treatment, eight people died on Thursday and two more minor girls Sumaira and Momal died on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Saif Anwar Jappa with health department teams visited the village and offered funeral prayers. He said the family would be compensated.

On Friday, the Rajanpur DC also visited Lashariwala village in Muzaffargarh district and met the relatives of the deceased.
