Wanted suspect injured in police `encounter`

BAHAWALPUR: An alleged dacoit, wanted in many cases, was arrested after he suffered bullet injuries in an `encounter` in the limits of Vehari Saddar police station on Sunday.
According to a spokesman, a police party, during a pre-dawn patrol, signaled four motorcyclists to stop near point 20/WB. The suspects allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the policemen, who retaliated in self-defence, the police claimed. During the firing by the suspects, a police vehicle was damaged.
When the crossfire between the suspects and police stopped, an alleged dacoit was found lying injured, while the others managedto escape under the cover of darkness. The injured man was identified as Saud, a resident of 96/WB village, who was shifted to hospital for treatment.
The police party recovered a snatched mobile phone, a motorcycle and weapons from the possession of the suspect.
The police spokesman said Saud was allegedly involved in the killing of a man and injuring another at 20/WB village last month and had managed to flee.
He said the suspect was also wanted in a number of cases registered at different police stations of the region. Cases were also registered against the fleeing suspects, he added.-Correspondent
