THE concluding paragraphs of Air Cdre (r) Azfar A. Khan`s letter (Nov 15) make a great deal of sense. It reminded me of 1986 when Hailey`s comet was due to get very close to the earth and Nasa asked world renowned computer scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to prepare a computer programme for tracking Hailey as it moved through space towards earth.
I was in Boston then and was really taken aback to see the whole MIT campus festooned with photographs, posters and buntings, highlighting this great achievement and giving the credit to a young undergraduate student for devising the sof tware.
