Hospital staff goes on strike

2015-11-28
ABBOTTABAD: The doctors and paramedical staff of district headquarters hospital, Abbottabad, on Friday boycotted duties to protest the `hooliganism` of relatives of two injured people on the hospital premises on Thursday evening.

Sources said that the entire hospital staff went on a strike, also closing the outpatient department to protest against the incident.

They said that two injured brothers were brought to the hospital, where the doctors after initial treatment referred them to the Ayub Medical Complex in precarious condition which infuriated the relatives.

They smashed windowpanes of the emergency ward and also thrashed the staff, including the medical superintendent, the sources said.

Later, the hospital staff held a meeting and decided to observe a strike to protest the incident.

District Police Officer Sher Al(bar held meetings with representatives of paramedics and doctors to persuade them to end the strike.

The hospital staff ended the strike after assurance from the DPO that a police post would be established in the hospital and legal action would be taken against the relatives of the two injured, who were involved in damaging the hospital property and thrashing the staffers.Correspondent
