Govt employees back protesting Lakki district council workers

Dawn Report 2015-11-28
LAKKI MARWAT/MARDAN: The government employees went to offices in the district on Friday wearing black armbands to express solidarity with the district council employees protesting denial of salary for three months.

They, however, did perform work and remained in offices until duty hours ended.

The call for the `token strike` was given by the local chapter of the All Government Employees` Council.

Office-bearer of the councilSaeed Akhtar expressed concern about the nonpayment of salary to the district council employees and asked the relevant authorities to address the issue without delay.

`The poor employees can`t discharge duty unless they`re paid salary,` he said.

He warned the council would join the district council employees in agitation if they`re not paid salary by Nov 30.

Also in the day, the JUI-F activists demonstrated in Lakki city against the terrorist attack on the motorcade of party leader and federal housing minister Akram Khan Durrani in Bannu.

Led by JUI-F district chief Maulana Abdul Rahim and general secretary Maulana Samiullah Mujahid, the demonstration began from a seminary on Begukhel Road and ended in Michenkhel Addaarea.

The speakers demanded that the government ensure foolproof security of JUI-F leaders, especially that of minister Akram Durrani.

In Mardan city, too, JUI-F leaders and workers on Friday took to the streets to protest the Bannu attack on Akram Durrani and demanded early arrest and punishment of attackers.

The protesters led by JUI-F district chief Maulana Mohammad Qasim and district general secretary Maulana Amanat Shah marched from the College Chowk to Mardan Press Club, where speakers criticised the PTI-led government for failing to provide security to their party leaders in the province.

They demanded the arrest of attackers and foolproof security for party leaders and other political leaders.
