Military courts accepted due to unusual circumstances: JI

LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has said that political parties have accepted the setting up of military courts only under pressing circumstances, adding that otherwise the decision in favour of these courts is far from being ideal.
He was addressing a luncheon hosted by the Jamaat here on Saturday for the families of Christians employed at Mansoora.
Mr Haq said the solution to all problems facing the country, including terrorism, lay in the enforcement of the Islamic system. He said all political and religious parties had given a clear mandate to the government to takeextreme` measures to root out terrorism and restore peace in the country.
He said that civil and military leadership had joined hands to wipe out terrorism from the country. `It is now for the government to take necessary measures to achieve this end.
Mr Haq said that unfortunately the laws already existed had not been fully enforced. He said it was the duty of the government to remove flaws in the judicial system, fill vacant posts and provide sufficient funds to the judiciary to facilitate its functioning.
He said the Peshawar tragedy had shocked the entire Muslim world.
Mr Haq said it had been decided that 2015 would be observed asthe year ofpeace.
