Education and politics

2022-12-28
THE recent controversy regarding the criteria for the appointment of vicechancellors (VCs)in Sindh is an indication of the administrative crisis in our educationalinstitutions.Itwasmandatory for the VCs in Sindh to have a doctorate (PhD) degree against their name, and the slot was open only to candidates qualif ying for a grade 22 post. The interviewer also had to be of the same grade. But such `niceties` were done away with by the provincial government through a decision that was challenged in the Sindh High Court.

It is obvious that some elements have been installed in the government and administration who are now bent upon destroying whatever educational and administrative standards we have in the province.

In order to protect the educational and national institutions of Sindh, the provincial government should support transparency for the sake of quality education. The domain of education is already suffering in the province and further political influence in this regard will only worsen the situation further.
