Gen Raheel: some lessons

2016-01-29
FINALLY, Gen Gen Raheel Sharif`s statement about his retirement quashed all rumours about an extension. It has many lessons for many people.

First, the army leadership has shown more maturity and has learnt from the past.

Second, we may see operation Zarb-i-Azb beingexecuted atafasterpace. The criminals and mafias in Karachi will also be eliminated with greater speed as the general has to complete his task before November when he will retire.

Third, it has many lessons for the civilian leadership and bureaucrats who always stick to corridors of power and do not want to quit.

Fourth, Gen Raheel`s announcement proves that all centres of power in Pakistan are learning from their mistakes and hence Pakistan is moving on the right track and the country is to see better days in future.

Mussadiq Khan Niazi Mianwali (2) GEN Raheel Sharif should not take retirement. The people appreciate the army chief`s action against terrorism as far as the Karachi operation is concerned. Calm has returned to the city and there is a sense of security. But a lot needs to be done.

The people support Gen Raheel more than the federal government. He should be asked to stay so that we may wipe out terrorism once and for all.
