I AND a colleague visited the university from where we graduated to collect our degree. This institution happens to be among the top ten campuses in Pakistan. A routine matter that should have at best taken no more than an hour saw me waste almost four hours in a cumbersome clearance process.
We first went to the library to obtain a clearance slip where we had to wait for an hour because of an internet connectivity problem. Then we were told to visit the accounts office where we were told to wait because the concerned clerk was out of the office. Other staff present in the office were busy in gossip. The time wasted here wasanother hour. In short, four hours to obtain a degree which the university can easily dispatch by mail after completing the formalities and save students from inconvenience.
