Battagram roads in bad shape

B A T T A G R A M : Complaining about the dilapidated condition of most link roads in Battagram district, the local residents have demanded the relevant authorities ensure their early reconstruction.

They told Dawn that the recent rains had worsened thingsforroad users.

The residents said among the roads in bad shape were UC Ajmera Link Road, which connected with the main KKH via Battagram Bazaar.

They said the link road was waterlogged after the rainy spell and thus, damaging vehicles and inconveniencing commuters.

Local resident Amjad Ali claimed he and other people of the region had visited the offices of the relevant authorities many times for the reconstruction of roads, but to no avail.

He demanded that the government allocate funds without delay for the reconstruction and repairs of link roads.

Noran Shah of Ajmera village complained the people`s representatives had promised many times to repair the road but the promises turned out to be false.

Another local resident,Inayat Khan, blamed the local government`s negligence for the people`s misery.

He said the link road to Ajmera and surrounding areas was so dilapidated that it couldn`t be used.

Cabbie Ihsan Khan of Ajmera village complained the link road was bumpy and therefore, he had to take the taxi to workshop frequently.

He said the road should be repaired or rebuilt immediately to the relief of its users.

Another local, Fazal Mohammad, said using theroad became very difficult whenever it rained.

When contacted, Ajmera UC nazim Abdul Haleem said he met the deputy commissioner and put up a written request to him for the road`s immediate reconstruction but to no avail.

He said he was striving to ensure the repairs and reconstruction of roads in the annual development programme.

When contacted by telephone, district nazim Attaur Rehman Khan said he was driving and therefore, he was unable to comment on the matter.
