LAHORE: After the Shahbaz government managed to placate Pir Hameedudin Sialvi and convince him against holding a sit-in, another religious group has announced protests if the Raja Zaf arul Haq committee report on attempts to change the election law related to finality of Prophethood is not released by Feb 20.
A `Tahafuz Khatam-iNabuwat and Pakistan Stability Conference` organised by the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) here on Sunday demanded the government make the inquiry report public by Feb 20 or face country-wide protests and sit-ins.
The organisers claimed that over 1,000 clerics and spiritual leaders from across Punjab attended the moot.
The participants also condemned US President Donald Trump`s tirade against Pakistan. Chaired by Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, it also denounced US drone strike inside Pakistani territory and demanded Islamabad suspended aerial and inland access for the US to Afghanistan.
A joint declaration issued after the moot demanded the government expose elements who allegedly attempted tochange the oath in election law regarding the finality of Prophethood. The participants also decided to observe `Finality of Prophethood Day` on Feb 7 all over the country.
The declaration also announced that the PUC would take part in general elections and strike electoral alliances with likeminded religious and political organizations for the purpose. It also demanded the Punjab Ulema Board treat equally all religious schools of thought while devising and revising school curriculum in the province. Staff Reporter
