LAHORE: A Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) team was thrashed and two of the officials were taken hostage for several hours by some chronic defaulters in Begum Kot area.

According to a spokesman, a team led by Lesco`s Begum Kot Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Faizan Azam went to the area to check an industrial connection that was disconnected for defaulting on the payment of Rs1.8 million bill a couple of days ago.

On finding that the power supply had been restored illegally by the defaulter, the team immediately disconnected it, the spokesman said.

At this, the consumer and his men attacked the Lesco offi-cials and thrashed them on the spot. The attackers also broke the keys of the Lesco`s vehicle and made two of the employees hostage in the factory, subjecting them to torture again.

One of the team member, who was outside the factory, called the local police by dialing 15 helpline number. Responding to the call, the police reached there and rescued the Lesco officials detained in the factory.

However, the police neither arrested any of the attackers, nor registered an FIR against them.

The Lesco management has criticized the police for not arresting any of the attackers.

Meanwhile, a Lesco team in Shalamar division got six persons arrested for stealing electricity.
