I WAS sitting in my car parked in the food area of a posh locality recently, I could not help notice a young boy roaming around the parked vehicles. He was barely 13.
Thebespectacledboyhad aninnocentlook about him. He was asking for alms. I saw a lady sitting in an expensive car handing over two crisp hundred-rupee notes to him.
What this lad did next totally astonished me. He excitedly exchanged high-fives with the other urchins who were working the food street and punched the air a couple of times in excitement. He then headed towards my vehicle and put on the same innocent face, giving me a sob story.
Witnessing what I just had, I gently rebuked him to be repaid by a sour look after which he went on to the next vehicle.
I urge citizens to donate to the needy and stop patronising scoundrels.
