LAHORE: The federal government appointed on Friday Tahir Mahmood as new managing director of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), relieving Muhammad Ziaur Rehman, who had been holding the additional charge of the slot for the last one year.
According to NTDC sources, thedecision to appoint Tahir Mahmood as NTDC chief was taken after the government considered him competent among top three short-listed for the post.
`Relieved MD iaur Rehman was also among those who had applied for the post advertised by the Ministry of Water and Power. He was also short-listed among top three candidates, including Mahmood, seeking appointment as MD,` anNTDC official told Dawn.
He said Rehman, who held additional charge of MD in addition to his actual job as general manager (WPPO-Water and Power Privatisation Organisation), was among top three senior general managers and also one-step senior to Mahmood in the NTDC.
But the government found Mahmood, a senior GM (CPPACentral Power Purchasing Agency)more suitable than Rehman during an interview and the short-listing process.
He said since Mahmood was set to take over the MD slot on Saturday (today), Rehman would be liable to work under him as GM (WPPO).
Talking to Dawn, Mr Mahmood confirmed his appointment as new NTDC chief, saying he would deliver as per expectations of the government.
